In order, however, to enable the reader to understatld the manner in which the adulteration of this article is performed, I shall describe, shortly, the materials, which enter into the composition of the spurious Brandy, which generally comprises the stock of the Advertising Wine and Spirit Merchant. The methods, by which Cognac Brandy is adul- terated, are various ; but, they are all effected by the admixture with such portion of it, as will an- swer the intention of the cheap seller, of the follow- ing 1 articles. In some instances the whole, in others, only a part of them are introduced ; and the number, quantity, and proportions in which they are used, are regulated by the experience, which the placarder has acquired, of the public taste.
