and thus prevents the dangers from absorption. still A is calculated to produce 168 pounds of steam per hour, provided it be supplied with boiling water; for if this was to be brought to ebullition by the still itself, a much less quantity of steam would be formed. It con- tains 230 litres up to the line a, and 306 up to h, which is the full charge. It would be easy to supply this still constantly with boiling water; this might be done by placing above it a small vessel filled with water, which might be brought to ebullition by means of the heat which escapes from the first still : a great economy in combustibles mi^ht thus be obtained.
