made by infusing 2 oz. of
Capillaire (proper) is

the maidenhair fern (
in 1 \ pint of boiling water, and 2 lbs. of loaf sugar, which pour while boiling hot on 2 oz. more of the fern ; in ten hours strain clear. To Clarify Syrups. — Beat up the syrup cold with white of egg ; heat ; remove scum when clear • while hot strain. For Filtering. — Use tammy or other proper substance ; if paper is required, the best Russian is preferable to any other. To Colour. — For green, use parsley or spinach leaves, digested in spirit ; for violet, mix blue and red together ; for green, mix blue and yellow ; for red, use cochineal or Brazil wood ; for blue, use in-
