Essences, 8fc. 155 Essence of Pine-apple. —Pine-apple oil (butyric ether), -1 oz.; rectified spirit, 3^ oz. Essence of Spruce. —Boil in water the young tops of the black spruce-fir (Abies nigra), and concen- trate the decoction by evaporation. Essence of Spruce. —A decoction prepared from the young tops of the Pinus larix, boiled till it evaporates to a thick syrup ; this, fermented with molasses, makes spruce beer. Essence of Violets. —2 fluid drachms orris root oil; rectified spirit, 5 oz.
