Tlie julep is peculiarly an American bevernge, and in tlic Southern states is more popular than any other.. It was introduced into England by Cajitain Marryatt, where it is now quite a favorite. The gallant captain seems to liave iiad a penchantfor the nectareous drink,and publi.sh- ed the recipe in his Avork on America. We give it in liis own Avords: "I must descant a little upon the mint julep, as it is, Avith the thermometer at 100°,one ofthe most de lightful and insinuating potations that CA'er Avas invented, and may be drunk Avith equal satisfaction Avhen the ther mometer is as low as 10°.
