Mix well with a spoon, but attention must be paid not to let the mixture spread over the glass. This is a delicious drink in summer and fancied very much by English people, and is also called Brandy Split by them.
CLARET COBBLER. (Use a large bar glass or goblet.)
1 tablespoonful of orchard syrup; •| tablespoonful of sugar; \ of an orange; 1 squirt of selters water; dissolve well with a spoon; fill with fine shaved ice; \\ wine glass of good claret wine; Stir well with a spoon, and ornament with slices of oranges, pineapple, lemon, etc., in a tasteful man- ner, and serve with a straw. COLUMBIA SKIN. (Use a small bar glass.) 1 teaspoonful of sugar, dissolve well with a little water; 1 slice of lemon; 2 or 3 pieces of broken ice; 1 wine glass of Medford rum; Stir up well with a spoon; grate a little nutmeg on top and serve. This drink is called Columbia Skin by the Boston people.
