Stir into a quart of water four pounds of granulated sugar, and boil for about ten minutes. Take from the fire, pour in water enough to make two quarts, and bottle. This gum syrup may be used in place of sugar in drinks, as it mixes more readily. A few drops in straight whiskey, brandy, gin, etc., will make the drink more palatable. 133 Gum Syrup.
