SUMMER DRINKS

St. Charles. Put into a tumbler one tablespoonful of icing sugar, one wineglass of port, a small glass of brandy, and the juice of half a lemon ; fill up the tumbler with shaved ice, and shake well ; ornament with fruits in season, and serve with a straw. St. Croix Rum. Put into a large tumbler one tablespoonful of icing sugar, thirty drops of lime or lemon juice, and dissolve in half a wineglass of water ; then add one wineglass of St. Croix rum, and a quarter of a wineglass of Jamaica rum; fill up with shaved ice, ornament with fruit in season, and serve with a straw. Sauterne. This is made the same as Claret Punch, sub stituting the like quantity of Sauterne. Sherry. Put into a large tumbler two wineglasses of sherry, half a wineglass of brandy, a tablespoon ful of icing sugar, two slices of orange, and the like of lemon ; nearly fill the tumbler with shaved ice, and shake well; ornament with berries in season, and serve with a straw.
