1936 Shaking in the 60's by Eddie Clarke

For home use glasses can be thinner and better quality than one would expect to be presented with in a public restaurant or a cocktail bar where staff problems are such, that breakages eat enormous holes into any profit. When giving a party at home it saves time and creates a good generous impression on your friends to use cocktail glasses almost double the size ofthose used in a hotel. After all they will not be filled, and it saves handicapping your guests with the fear ofruining your carpet. The following is a quick run through of the most desired types ofglasses.

Tumbler glass Preferably clear, size 8-12 ozs., tall and fairly straight sided wth a thickish bottom.

Cocktail glasses Size from 2^2 to 3/4 o^s., must be stemmed so that the heat ofthe hand can be absorbed in the stem without danger ofbeing imparted to the ice cold contents contained in the bowl.

Sherry glass Clear, size from 2^4 to 3^ ozs., should be stemmed with a long deep tulip shaped bowl. The male palate appreciates a dry sherry served cold, and the stem will protect the wine in thesame manner as the cocktail glass.
