Observations This one has potency galore, and is highly favored by those who like a strong cocktail with a sweet taste. Jamaica Rum* (86 proof) is a dark yellow, full-bodied liquor of great fame. Its consumption is supposed to act as a sort of vac cine against fever in tropical climes, and for this purpose it is used in the British Navy. Curacao (60-70 proof) and Cointreau (80 proof) are sweet liqueurs, the best brands of the former originating in Holland, while the latter hails from France. Curacao is distilled from the peel of a bitter orange grown in the Islands of Curacao. This orange has been developed extensively for this purpose by the Dutch, who have large hold- inqs in said islands.
