THE ROVING BARTENDER
GIN
Distilled gin is made from a mash of whole grain with juniper berries and other aromatics added. Holland was the first gin maker and their gins were to be found in every country in the world, and in countries where duties were low or didn't exist, you could buy a liter for about 20 cents American. This was of course, before 1900. Eng lish gins were the most popular in this country and most mixing was done with them until our own gins improved and now it's mostly domestic in our drinks.
