Scotch whiskies shipped to America are 25 u.p. Sikes equivalent to 80 American proof. Gins are usually sold abroad at 17 u.p. Sikes, or between 22 and 25 u.p. Sikes. Some Gins are sold in the East as low as 30 and 35 u.p. Sikes. In this table the American section is marked"o.p." and"u.p." but it is usual when talking about American strengths to mention, for instance, 90 per cent, instead of 10 u.p. and 80 per cent, instead of 20 u.p. There is a difference between the English and American gallon. For instance, the British Imperial gallon is equal to 1.20 American gallon. The British Imperial gallon contains 160 ozs., and the American gallon contains 128 American ozs. From this it will be observed that, while the American gallon is smaller than the British gallon, the American ounce is a larger measure than the British ounce. Regarding the bottle contents of American packages, their quart is 32 American ozs. which equals 33.33 British ozs., their hifth is 25.3/5ths American ozs. equal 26.66 British ozs. (This is the same content as the British whisky bottle). Their pint is 16 American ozs., equal to 16.06 British ozs. Their tenth is 12.4/oths American ozs. rvhich equals 13.33 British ozs.
