Burns and scalds. — Cover with cooking soda and apply wet cloths. Whites of eggs and olive oil. Olive or linseed oil, plain or mixed, with chalk or whiting. Lightning.— Dash cold water over the person struck. Sunstroke. — Loosen clothing. Get patient into shade and apply ice cold water to head. Mad dog or snake bite. — Tie cord tight above wound. Suck the wound and cauterize with caustic or white hot iron at once, or cut out adjoining parts with a sharp knife. Venomous insects' stings, etc. — Apply weak ammonia, oil, salt water, or iodine. Fainting. — Place flat on back; allow fresh air and sprinkle with water. Cinders in the eye. — Roll soft paper up like a lamp lighter and wet tip to remove, or use a medicine dropper to draw it out. Rub other eye. Open wounds. — On scratches and slight woupds apply half strength iodine. Dirty or greasy wounds should first be cleansed with high grade benzine. All open wounds should .be covered with gauze and bandage from first-aid kit. Never wash or touch a wound with fingers or that part ofthe gauze that comes in contact with the woun'd. Never use cob webs,tobacco, waste or oil, as they may cause blood poisoning. 01
