Macomber, an American owner, won both these Autumn handicaps In 1925 with "Forsetl" and "Masked Marvel". The Queen Alexandra Stakes, a very popular race over 2 miles 6 fur. 85 yds, was won on six consecutive occasions 1929-34 by"Brown Jack ", Steve Donoghue up. The Queen Alexandra Stakes Is by no means the longest flat race In the world; this title Is rightly claimed for the Prix Gladlateur run at Long- champ on the last Sunday In October, over 3 miles 7furlongs. The most sensational event in horse racing Is the Grand National Steeplechase run in March, at Aintree, Liverpool. There are 30 jumps, the water jumps being 15 ft. wide, and the distance Is 4 miles 856 yards; the race dates from 1839.
