3 drachms of nutmegs. 3 do. cloves.

Ground to a course powderj macerate with gal lons of alcohol, 95 per cent, for 2 weeks; add lbs. of brown sugar, boiled, and clarified with gallons of pure water; color it with y}4 ounces of sugar color ing, dark brown. Filter. 26. Bitters, Essence. lb. of orange peel, Ground to coarse powder; macerate or displace with 7^ gallons of alcohol, 95 per cent, mixed with 2^ gallons of water. Filter. 27. Bitters, Hamburg. 2 ounces of agaric, cinnamon, cassia buds, grains of paradise, quassia wood, cardamon seed, gentian root, orange apples, dried, orange peel. lb. of orange apples, lb. of gentian root, lb. of lemon peel.
