1923 Harry of Ciro's ABC of mixing cocktails (second impression)

RECIPES FOR HOME-MADE ORANGE BRANDY, AND SLOE GIN.

Orange Brandy. Pour I gallon of the best French Brandy on the rinds of i6 Seville oranges in a large pan, the rinds pared very thin. 3 pounds of sugar candy crushed fine. 2 Vanilla Pods. Let it remainfor three days stirring frequently. Strain through a jelly bag and bottle. Sloe Gin. I gallon unsweetened Gin, i gallon ripe Sloes, 3lbs. Sugar Candy. Pick stalks off Sloes, and slightly bruise with a silver fork, to be then put into a large stone jar. Crush Sugar and add. Shake once a day for 3 months, and take care jar has an airtight cork. Put away for 2 years when strain and bottle.
