punch bowl; Beat the whites of six eggs to a stiff froth, and the yolks until they are as thin as water; then mix together, with a quarter of a wineglass of Jamaica rum, two pounds of icing sugar, and a teaspoonful of mixed spict (nutmeg and cinnamon), until the mixture attains the consistency of a light batter. Put a tablespoonful of this mixture into a small tumbler with a wineglass of brandy, and nearly fill with boiling water; serve with a little grated nutmeg on top. Instead of brandy, a wineglassful may be used of the following mixture, which has been previously prepared and stored in a bottle: One pint of brandy, half a pint of Jamaica rum, and half a pint of Santa Cruz or white rum; and instead of serving in a smali tumbler, an earthenware cup will be found an improvement. N.B.—In mixing the batter, a teaspoonful of cream of tartar or a little carbonate of soda will prevent the sugar from settling to the bottom of the mixture. For cold Tom and Jerry use cold water or cold milk.
