Port Wine Negus

Pour a large glass of Port wine into a pitcher. Rub five or six lumps of sugar against the rind of a lemon until all the yellow part of the skin is absorbed by the sugar. Squeeze the lemon juice on the sugar, strain, and add the lemon Juice and sugar to the Port wine. Add grated nutmeg, fill up with boilingwater, cover the whole, and when cooled off it will be ready to serve. Hot Gin Sling Dissolve a small spoonful of powdered sugar in a little boiling water, add a wine-glass of gin, and fill up with boiling water. Grate a little nutmeg on top and Rock and Rye Stir together in a small container one tablespoonful of rock-candy syrup and one wine-glass full of Rye whis key. Heat over a flame and drink hot. This is excellent for a cold. Hot Italian Pare the rind of four lemons, and squeeze the juice upon the peel, steeping it overnight. Then add half a pound of loaf sugar, a large glass of Sherry wine and a serve.
