HOCKS AND MOSELLES
MOSELLES.
The wines of the MOSELLE and its tributaries, SAAR and the RUWER, are remarkable for their delicate perfume and subtle flavour due to a great extent to the silicious nature of the soil upon which the Riesling vine thrives so well. They may be called the ideal luncheon wines owing to their comparatively low alcoholic strength and their pleasing natural dryness. From a medical point of view they can be strongly recommended, as they are quickly assimilated and therefore easily digested. The finest growths of the Moselle proper are to be found on either bank of the river. To name but a few districts in alphabetical order : Berncastel-Cues, Brauneberg, Dhron, Enkirch, Erden, Graach, Josefs- hof, Lieser, Piesport, Reil, Uerzig, VVehlen and Zeltingen. The names of the different vineyards are added to that of the district under such tempting titles as " Himmelreich "—Kingdom of Heaven ; " Rosen berg "—Garden of Roses ; " Goldtropfchen "— Drops of Gold ; " Wurzgarten "—Garden of Spices.
