Vintage Years
The Wine charts which appear regularly each year from many sources must never be considered hard and binding with the choice ofwines. They only give an overall guide to the wine growing districts, each of which cover considerable areas ofsometimes undulating land and vary ing types of soil. Therefore it must be expected that each vineyard may give yields equally varying. However, the following will give one a good picture of recent vintage years:— 1952 An excellent year in all areas, especially the Red Wines, the Clarets and Burgundies kept very well. 1953 Another excellent year. Clarets, Burgundies were very soft and full bodied wines—Champagne was exceptionally good. 1954 Not a vintage year, only Ports seemed to show as a wine ofcharacter. 1952—1961
