Mumm Charles Heidsieck Perrier Jouet Heidsieck Dry Monopole Pol Roger Irroy Pommery & Greno Krug Louis Roederer Lanson Ruinart The last (Ruinart Pere & Fils) were established in the year 1729 and were the first exporters of Champagne to Great Britain. In certain years when the wine is exceptionally good,a vintage is declared, in which case the wine of that year is sold as vintage Champagne. When it does not attain this very high standard, Non-Vintage wines are shipped. Some ofthe above have what might be called "de Luxe" brands, Moet & Chandon, with its "Dom Perignon", Louis Roederer "Cristal Brut", Ruinart "Reserve Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Brut",come to mind.These are,of course, in addition to their usual vintage and non-vintage wines and supplies are restricted. There is not much point in discussing vintages with Champagne,for ifthey are exported as such,that in itselfis recommendation indeed. The vintages of 1952, 1953 and 1955 are here and being drunk; the 1957's and I959's will be shipped in due course. Chablis We must now pop north for these vineyards,which are situated about ninety miles north-west ofDijon. In the main,they comprise Chablis Grand Cru,a white wine which is dry and ages extremely well in bottle; Chablis First Growth, which is usually followed by the name ofthe
