In actual fact, it is 57.10% alcohol to 42.90% distilled water, which is the standard laid down as 100% proof. Therefore, any spirits containing 57.10% alcohol is our standard Proof spirit, any thing over is confirmed as (O.P.) over Proof, or under Proof (U.P.). Most all spirits sold in this country bear 70% Proof on the label, which means that the alcohol content is only 70% ofthe standard Proof oi" 30% under Proof(U.P.).
