(English Wine.) Madefrom the fermented juice of pears, usually sweetened. Can be obtained as a still and a sparkling wine.

(Aperitif Cordial Wine.) Flavoured with aromatic herbs, spices and quinine. (A Spirit Cup.) Can be obtained in five varieties. No. i. Gin based; No. 2, Whisky based; No. 3, Brandy based; No. 4, Rum based; No. 5, Vodka based. (Wine of Portugal.) Fortified wine made from grapes grown in the valley of the Upper Douro,from where it is taken down to the city of Oporto where it is stored in the Lodges and allowed to mature in casks until shipment. Made on a Jamaica Rum base. Dark red in colour, flavoured with the essence of pepper. Made by steeping Pimento berries in rum. (Always a difficult thing to explain, but I will do my best.) In the U.K. it is based on thefollowing assumption. Ata tempera ture of 5i°F. alcohol will weigh exactly the same as 12/13 of an equal measure of distilled water, or to simplify, at 5i°F. 12 glasses of water is the exact weight of 13 same glasses of alcohol.
